The Skinny - April 28th, 2010

Loupe is the official imageblog of RGB Haus. It’s also where I post my own photography as it comes along. On that note, whenever you see first-person pronouns getting thrown around this place, they’re referring to me, Matthew. I run this joint. I also design things, write copy for people, and take pictures.

The purpose of Loupe:

I originally made Loupe in a fit of angst over how crappy most imageblogs are these days. Screen sizes keep getting bigger, but images keep getting smaller — as people sacrifice more pixels to advertisements and other rubbish like Facebook (some of my thoughts on Facebook). Images are meant to be seen, aren’t they? Loupe was built to be an imageblog that centers all attention on the images, because that’s the way it should be. It’s a place where I can post images that I like right alongside those that I create.

Something should be said about the images that get posted here: I hate the ridiculous practices of most photographers on the Internet today, because so many of them plaster obnoxious watermarks all over their work and copyright it to hell and back again. Images on Loupe are devoid of any obnoxious markings; only tastefully signed photos are allowed. I make full use of Creative Commons licensing for all my own images, which are tagged with EXIF data in lieu of watermarking. When I post another photographer’s work, I attribute the work to that person. If people place stringent limitations on their work, then I don’t post it. If I come across an image that I love, but notice that it’s been ravaged by the insecurity and pompous delusions of its creator, I won’t post it. It’s as simple as that.
